Getting imap to work

Postby T-Rex » Tue Aug 28, 2012 7:03 am

I can't seem to get imap to work properly. It won't receive or send mails.
I can see the imap folder in the mailboxes, but it's empty. I think I've configured the settings correctly - he says tentatively.

I am able to get imap working for gmail. I have not tried it with my own mail server yet.

Account:
yourname@gmail.com
imap.gmail.com
smtp.gmail.com

Checking:
Port 993
SSLv23 (sets the port to 993)

Sending:
465
SSLv23 (sets the port to 465)

Thanks arsorkin. I have all that correctly. Turned out I had stupidly entered the wrong password!
However! All is still not working properly. I see all the folders associated with that gmail account, but when I open any folder, it's empty?

I don't have that problem (empty mailboxes) with gmail. If I click on an imap mailbox, MF does a sync operation, and messages show up. I did have one instance where the title bar message count was scrambled after I stopped the sync because it appeared to be hung. I would say that there are still some bugs with imap, but is seems to mostly work (for me for gmail).

Nah, imap with Gmail is not working well at all. Will not sync. Would this be because I've got POP set up in Eudora for the same account?

I'm downloading mail on a Mac using Eudora (or MailForge) with POP from my Linux mail server (but not automatically deleting on download). And I have an IMAP connection when using a Google Nexus 7 and K-9 Mail (sometimes at the same time too). So generally speaking, there is no problem using both. However, gmail could behave differently from Linux postfix/dovecot.
